dontcha know

Dear 2012,

Oomph. We started out rough didn’t we? I thought new year, new me, but as the months started to roll by, the more and more I fell into a routine – it wasn’t until April that you had given me all that I could take, and forced me to make a change.

You gave me courage to begin a whole new chapter in my life, better yet, you let me start a brand new book. The pages that I have been able to color in the past few months makes for the most beautiful collage of memories that I will forever be grateful of.

You gave me wings to fly away from home, and then allowed me to hit the ground running. You gave me the strength to quit my job(s), leave my friends & family to follow a “dream.” I put that in quotations because not even 7 months ago, that’s all it was, but now it’s my reality, my life.

I learned a lot about myself in your months, days, minutes and seconds…

I learned that I’m way more independent than I ever thought. — There is nothing more satisfying than writing a rent check for $1000+ every month, and not having to ask your parents for help.

I learned that true friendships are relationships.  You have to commit to a friend, because the people you actually invest your time in will eventually become your lifeline to happiness.

I learned that you can work really hard, and be rewarded. — If you pour your heart and soul into something, people will notice, and praise you.

I learned that you can do anything  you put your mind to. — If it’s uprooting your life to a whole new city, or allowing your heart to be broken and allowing yourself time to heal, or if it’s dealing with painful memories and embracing your secrets, you can, I can.

I learned that you deserve all the happiness in the world. — If you feel like you need a change in your life, CHANGE. Don’t be afraid to give yourself everything you have ever wanted.

So thank you 2012 for breathing life back into me, you saved me.
